Susan Haig

 

Susan Haig is an orchestra conductor and cultural leader dedicated to fostering civics and sustainability in New Jersey.   Currently conductor of the South Orange Symphony, Haig served as Music Director of the Windsor Symphony (Canada) and the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, and Associate Conductor of the Florida Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.  

 

In 2009 Haig founded CivicStory (formerly NJ Arts News), a solutions-based nonprofit news site focused on sustainability and civics, that has produced over 100 short videos viewable on YouTube.com. Through its statewide collaborative project, NJ Sustainability News, CivicStory is co-generating sustainability stories from nine diverse NJ newsrooms.  The project received an Excellence in Local News - Collaboration - award from the Center for Cooperative Media at Montclair State.

 

Haig was born and raised in Summit, N.J., graduated from Princeton University and received Master's and Doctoral degrees in conducting from Stony Brook University. She served five terms as a trustee of the National Music Museum (Vermillion, SD), and was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Windsor in 1998.  Having served as 2017 President of Summit-New Providence Rotary, Haig also serves on the South Orange Public Library Foundation Board and the Mission & currently Community team of First Presbyterian & Trinity Church in South Orange.
